World – Pray for Africa, particularly Cameroon, Ghana and South Africa as various elections take place, and for violence and unrest in these countries which goes largely unreported by the western press. Remember in your prayers the Middle East region and in particular Syria and pray for civilians who are caught up in fighting and are fleeing conflict. Continue to pray for all those places in our world where there is unrest, war and troubles. Pray for all those who are making decisions about the lives of these refugees as they flee conflict in their own countries and pray for compassion in these difficult situations. After an earthquake in the southern pacific and tsunami warnings being issued pray for smaller Islands in the path of these devastating natural occurrences.

Pray also for servicemen and women who are on the frontline in the battle against extremism and terrorism around the world. As talks over Brexit continue pray for ministers on all sides of the debate to allow this to be a smooth process for Britain. As the high court case goes to appeal about how Article 50 should be triggered pray that the right conclusion is found which is in the best national interest for our country.

Church and Community – Thank God for a wonderful Christmas Tree festival weekend and for all God has done through this in peoples hearts and within our community. Pray for our Messy church team and for all the families who come month on month as they hear the stories from the bible. Pray that each person that comes will be touched by God’s Spirit. Pray for our schools this week after the wonderful performances from Brunswick school and as Woodhouse West visit this week. Pray for pupils, staff and parents in this final week of school and for wonderful times together. Remember in your prayers our ecumenical partners in the village and the work they do with the elderly, young people and those who are vulnerable in our society. Pray for the wider deanery as we think through ways of how we might work together more closely.

Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week, particularly the family and friends of Isobel Dale and Ernest Mottershaw, that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
