Items for Prayer 28th February 2016

World –After reports of clashes between Al-Shabab and Kenyan military in Somalia pray for this region of the world as civil war, unrest and famine continue to go on with little world attention. Similarly after a UN report this week pray for Libya and the Middle East in general where killings and torture are committed with exemption on all sides. Continue to pray for Syria, Ukraine, Iraq, Afghanistan and various countries in Africa where there is unrest, war and famine. As the Zika virus continues to spread in countries in Africa and South and North America pray for scientists who are behind in research as they search for a cure and solution to the virus.

UK – After the announcement this week of a date for a referendum for the UK’s future within Europe pray for a fairness in the debate and the way in which the media report news over the coming months. As political posturing begins surrounding an EU referendum pray that there will be full and frank discussion from all parties and the electorate are fully informed before a decision is made. Pray for the NHS and all those who work in the service, particularly for junior doctors as relations with the government remain strained after enforced contracts. Pray for fairness to all in our benefits system in this country.

Church and Community – Continue to pray for discussions taking place between our parish and those in the local area as plans are presented to chapter, the deanery synod and the Diocese to work with fewer clergy numbers and how we might partner with other parishes to continue God’s mission in this area of Sheffield. Pray for Karen, Debora and Lesley as they prepare and organise for our Churches Together holiday club during Holy Week. Pray that God is already preparing the hearts of those children who will attend and that they will learn more of the love God has for them.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time particularly Joyce, June F, Sylvia L, Jean G and Jean D. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week, particularly the friends and family of Sylvia Ryalls, that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
