Items for Prayer w/c 2nd April 2017

World – As the French Presidential election comes closer and once again a far-right group in Europe has growing support pray for the electorate to choose the right candidate who will being unity to the country. Pray for Africa and for the increasing humanitarian crisis and for aid agencies as they work in countries where there is famine and unrest. Pray for the governments in Afghanistan and Iraq as they try to govern in these difficult countries and for the Ukraine, Syria and other countries where there is war and unrest. Pray for the US as the President looks to overturn various laws around climate change and the implications this may have on global warming and the state of the environment across the world for future generations.

UK – Continue to pray for the families of those who died and those who were caught up in the attack in London. Continue to pray for the emergency services and for our intelligence services as they work to keep us safe from terrorism. After the announcement this week that article 50 has been officially triggered pray for negotiations on all sides to be fair and cordial. As we enter a protracted period of uncertainty for our country pray for our economy, for those most affected and who’s status in this country is uncertain and for sensible debate. Pray also for the Scottish government and for relations between them and Westminster as a further referendum is called for. In a time of uncertainty and instability pray that a sensible time frame can be found for this vote. Pray for our local schools and for the education system in our country as the government restructures the funding system.

Church and Community – Pray for unity in our Diocese and for guidance as we move forward together in mission and outreach to communities across our region as a new Bishop is sought. After a call by Bishop Peter for a time of reflection and prayer leading up to the Chrism service in Holy week dedicate yourself to prayer this week for Pray also for senior staff as they find a path of reconciliation and deal. As the churches in Woodhouse come together over the next few weeks for various events over the Easter period pray for preparations and for many in our community to hear the Good News of Jesus.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time, particularly Ann, Linda, David, Rebecca, Tony, Cassie and Bobby, Paul, Sylvia, Jean G and Jean D. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week, particularly the family and friends of Linda Young, that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
