After the release in Myanmar this week of student activists pray for Burma and this closed country. Pray particularly for Christians in the country who are some of the most oppressed in our world and for those who seek political reform in this country.

Continue to pray for junior doctors and hold the NHS in your prayers and all those who work in the service. As plans to turn all schools into academy come under the spotlight pray for school leaders, unions and ministers to make the best decisions for pupils and parents rather than just for political gain. Pray particularly for our local primary schools, both of which will be affected by these changes and for local children who attend those schools.

Church and Community – After the Pope issues a document entitled ‘Love in the Family’ dealing with some very difficult doctrinal issues for the Catholic church pray for Bishops, priests and Catholics world wide as they start to understand what this might mean for pastoral care for all in the Catholic church. Continue to pray for discussions taking place between our parish and those in the local area as plans are presented to chapter, the deanery synod and the Diocese to work with fewer clergy numbers and how we might partner with other parishes to continue God’s mission in this area of Sheffield. Pray for David our new youth worker who will begin working for us this week and his fiancée as they plan their wedding later this year. Pray they will find a real welcome here at St James and a place that wants to bless them as they bless us.
