Items for Prayer w/c 12th February 2017

World – After the speaker of the house has spoken out against the state visit of the Donald Trump, particularly to address the Houses of Parliament, pray for him that he will remain true to his convictions whilst showing impartiality. Pray for those who have the Presidents ear for careful and responsible advice to be given. Pray for Syria and the whole of the Middle East amidst continued fighting and war. After the indictment of former President of France pray for the country amongst yet another scandal for the governent. Continue to pray for the Gambia as the government goes through turbulent times and disputes over elections. As Holland goes to the polls later this month pray for God’s will in this crucial election which will have far ranging effects both in the country and further afield in the EU.

UK – After the commons votes that overwhelmingly backed the Brexit bill continue to pray for ministers as they head towards a formal triggering of article 50 and the beginning of negotiations for Brexit. Pray that the best interests of all will prevail in this difficult situation. Continue to pray for the NHS and all those who work in the health professions. Pray for government strategies to be in the best interests of patients and political posturing will not get in the way of providing the very best care for all. Pray for those who are struggling to buy their own home amidst a property stock crisis and for our government as they announce measures to provide more affordable homes across the country.

Church and Community – After the announcement of our new Diocesan Bishop please pray for Philip North as he takes up this important role and for all those who will be under his authority. Pray for our Diocese as we move forward together in mission and outreach to communities across our region. As we are joined today by local branches of the Royal Signals and British Legion pray for them and the work they do with ex-servicemen across our city and community. Pray for Dave and the team as 92Teens meets once again this week and for the young people who attend. Pray for Dave as Area Dean as he leads clergy in this deanery and for wisdom and pastoral care as they discuss new ways of spreading God’s word in these different and often struggling communities. Pray particularly for our emerging mission partnership with other local churches as we meet this week to discuss how we will cover services over the coming months.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time, particularly David, Rebecca, Tony, Cassie and Bobby, Paul, Sylvia, Jean G, Jean D, Doreen and Mavis. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week, particularly the family and friends of John Sheldon, that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
