World – After the murder of a Buddhist Monk in Bangladesh this week pray for this country as this is just the one of many killings against minority religious groups, secular activists and academics in the last few months by Islamic extremists. Continue to pray for the situations in Syria, Ukraine, Iraq, Afghanistan and various countries in Africa where there is unrest, war and famine. As Rio prepares for the Olympic Games pray for organisers and all those involved in with building the infrastructure after delays, allegations of corruption and the looming problem of the Zika virus. Pray these problems will be rectified and as in London 4 years ago the games bring people and countries together.

On the back of this trial and after inquiries set up to look at the police response at Orgreave and the sexual exploitation cases in Rotherham pray for our police force and for a way forward. After the election of a new Police Commissioner in our area last Thursday pray for wisdom at a time of upheaval and where serious questions need to be asked. Continue to pray for new local councillors, the referendum debates. Thank God that the government has taken a step back from the academies for all agenda in schools and have returned to the negotiating table with Junior doctors. Pray that these negotiations will be fruitful for both sides and that ministers will listen to the grievances and concerns that the professionals in both education and health have. Pray for pupils in our local secondary schools beginning GCSE’s and A-Levels. After significant changes in all these tests pray for children to do the best they can on the day and for them to remain calm and stress free.

Church and Community – Pray for local plans in our deanery and with ecumenical colleagues to work closer together and for God to guide us as a church as to how we should go about this task. Pray particularly for our deanery synod on Tuesday as these plans are agreed for the Bishop and senior staff to consider. Pray for our Messy church team as they run another session on Monday and for all those that come. Thank God for the teams dedication and time and continue to pray that through these activities we will see our children grow in faith and knowledge of God. Pray for David as he heads up our youth work and for Jamie as he helps at 92Teens. Give them a real sense of God’s plan for the youth here in Woodhouse and for others to be ignited into a passion for youth work in our community.
