Items for Prayer w/c 17th July 2016

World – As racial tensions still remain high in America after the shootings 5 police officers in Dallas pray for all those involved and particularly for the families of those who have lost loved ones. Pray for America as the presidential campaigning continues and that voters will be able to choose the best candidate to lead the world’s most influential country. Continue to pray for places in our world where there is war and unrest, particularly Syria, the Ukraine and Africa. Away from media attention the Taliban is still active in Afghanistan after troops have been withdrawn. Pray for the fledgling democratic government there to be able to withstand against these attacks and to build a better and democratic country for all.

UK – As a new Prime Minister is installed in 10 Downing Street this week pray for Theresa May as she forms a new government and appoints key cabinet colleagues. Pray for the Labour party as they conduct their own leadership election and for a strong government in our democracy. Continue to pray for our country as we go through political turmoil and as answers and a way forward seem to still be unclear after the EU referendum. Pray for politicians from all sides and for our country in these turbulent times. Pray for the Scottish government as they look to the possibility of a second referendum for independence and for unity across the country both in Scotland and across the UK. After an independent review set up by the Bishop of Rochester pray for girls who were put through regular and systematic at Kendall House in Gravesend in the 60’s,70 and 80’s. Pray for those in our country who live with the memories of abuse in their past and for healing and reconciliation in their adult lives.

Church and Community – Pray for Bishop Steven and Ann as they leave the Diocese for Oxford and for the leaving service today at Sheffield Cathedral. Pray for good endings and farewells and pray for them as a couple as they begin a new period in their lives and ministry in a new Diocese. Pray for our Messy church families as the group meets for a BBQ and worship time tomorrow.  Pray for Nellie, Olivia and Jacob and their family and friends as they come for baptism today and as they begin their journey of faith. Pray for our TOT’s group as they finish for the summer and for our Mother’s Union as they meet this Tuesday.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time particularly Linda, Sue Stewart, Derek Craig, Shaun, Rita Spencer and Sylvia L. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week, particularly the family and friends of James Arthur, that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
