World – Continue to pray for those places in our world where there is unrest, war and troubles. Pray particularly for Syria, the Ukraine and various trouble spots in Africa, for peace and reconciliation. Continue to pray for the US presidential elections and for sensible debate and rhetoric from both camps as campaigning continues. Pray for the American people who have a difficult decision ahead of them. After years of unrest with militant left wing groups in Colombia pray for the peace referendum which is to take place in the country in the next month and that a lasting peace will be able to be implemented in the country. As the Paralympic Games continue in Rio this week pray for all the athletes who will be attending and for this to be a great world spectacle that promotes those with disabilities around the world.

UK – As we approach the party conference season pray for our government and for opposition parties. Pray particularly for the Labour party as their lengthy leadership battle comes to a conclusion this week and for the right winner to create a strong opposition in parliament. Pray for Scotland as the SNP again promote independence and for focus to be given to the economy and education in the country. Continue to pray for junior doctor and that negotiations can restart before further strikes take place later in the year after the imposition of contracts. Continue to pray for the NHS as they look to cut costs and still provide a world class service. Pray for managers, health care professionals, doctors and all those employed by the NHS during these difficult times.

Church and Community – Continue to prayer for the vacancy-in-see committee as they work with the Archbishops’ and Prime Minister’s Secretaries for Appointments in our Diocese as they look to discern who the next bishop of Sheffield might be. Pray for Charlotte and Cassie today and their family and friends as they are baptised this morning here at St James and as they begin their journey of faith. Pray for our Messy church as it begins again tomorrow after the summer break. Pray for Tara as she leads the worship and for all those who volunteer and thank God for their commitment to this outreach each month. Pray for the children and families that come and that they will find a warm welcome and learn more about how God can have an impact in their lives and on their families.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time, particularly Jane O, Mavis, Jean G and James. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
