Items for Prayer w/c 21st February 2016

World –After the earthquake in Taiwan continue to pray for all those affected as they begin to rebuild their lives and homes after this natural disaster. Pray for Turkey after the bombings in Ankara this week and for all those who have lost loved ones. Continue to pray for Syria, Ukraine, Iraq, Afghanistan and various countries in Africa where there is unrest, war and famine. Pray for relations between the US and Cuba will continue to thaw as President Obama makes a historic trip to the country. As the Zika virus continues to spread in countries in Africa and South and North America pray for scientists who are behind in research as they search for a cure and solution to the virus.

UK – After further discussions in the EU and with the UK regarding a renegotiation of terms this week pray for a fairness to all in the policy and as political posturing begins surrounding an EU referendum pray that there will be full and frank discussion from all parties and the electorate are fully informed before a decision is made. Pray for the NHS and all those who work in the service, particularly for junior doctors as relations with the government remain strained after enforced contracts. After motions at General Synod this week pray for tenants in social housing after government cuts and proposed further cuts to housing benefits that will affect the areas in which many are already living. Pray for fairness to all in our benefits system in this country.

Church and Community – Continue to pray for discussions taking place between our parish and those in the local area as plans are presented to chapter, the deanery synod and the Diocese to work with fewer clergy numbers and how we might partner with other parishes to continue God’s mission in this area of Sheffield. Pray for Harleigh today as she comes for baptism and for her parents, godparents and all their family and friends as they celebrate her birth and as she begins her journey of faith.  Pray for Karen, Debora and Lesley as they prepare and organise for our Churches Together holiday club during Holy Week. Pray that God is already preparing the hearts of those children who will attend and that they will learn more of the love God has for them.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time particularly Sue, Pat, Joyce, June F, Sylvia L, Jean G and Jean D. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week, particularly the friends and family of Tony Wayneman, that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
