Items for Prayer w/c 22nd May 2016

World – Praise God that one of the children kidnapped by Boko Haram 2 years ago has been found safe this week by Nigerian authorities. Continue to pray for the families of the other 218 children that they are still alive and as the Nigerian Army launches operations against this militant group that they too will be rescued. After days of torrential rain in Sri Lanka pray for rescue organisations as they search for scores who are still lost because of mudslides in the country. Pray for all those who have been affected by this particular disaster for the many around the world who are still recovering from similar natural events that have caused devastation. Continue to pray for America as the Democratic nomination process moves to California and for the American electorate as they start to think about who will they back for president in the autumn.

UK – After the Queens speech this week pray for the proposed reforms to prisons and that these will be a well thought out set of measures that helps all those who have offended to turn around their lives. Continue to pray for our government as plans for all schools to become academies are rethought and  thank God that ministers have returned to the negotiating table with Junior doctors. Pray that these negotiations will be fruitful for both sides and that ministers will listen to the grievances and concerns that the professionals in both education and health have. Pray for pupils in our local secondary schools beginning GCSE’s and A-Levels. After significant changes in all these tests pray for children to do the best they can on the day and for them to remain calm and stress free.

Church and Community – Pray for local plans in our deanery and with ecumenical colleagues to work closer together and for God to guide us as a church as to how we should go about this task. Pray for our Mothers Union as they meet this week and for the love and friendship that can be found there. Pray for David as he heads up our youth work and for Jamie as he helps at 92Teens. Give them a real sense of God’s plan for the youth here in Woodhouse and for others to be ignited into a passion for youth work in our community. Pray for Will and Lizzie, for James and Abby as they dedicate their son today. Pray that as James begins his journey of faith Will and Lizzie and the godparents will find ways to teach him about Jesus and that as he grows he will come to a greater understanding of God’s love in his life.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time particularly David, June and Derek Craig, Shaun, Rita Spencer, Sylvia L, Will’s Mum and Dad, Jean G and Jean D. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week, particularly the friends and family of Catherine Summers, that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
