Items for Prayer w/c 25th September 2016

World – Continue to pray for those places in our world where there is unrest, war and troubles. Pray particularly for Syria after aid packages have been stopped after attacks on UN convoys, the Ukraine and various trouble spots in Africa, for peace and reconciliation. Continue to pray for the US presidential elections and for sensible debate and rhetoric from both camps as campaigning continues. Pray for the American people who have a difficult decision ahead of them. After years of unrest with militant left wing groups in Colombia pray for the peace referendum which is to take place in the country in the next month and that a lasting peace will be able to be implemented in the country.

UK – As the party conference season continues pray for our government and for opposition parties. Pray particularly for the Labour party after the announcement this week of their new leader. Pray for him as he begins to reunite the party and provides a strong opposition in parliament. Pray for Scotland as the SNP again promote independence and for focus to be given to the economy and education in the country. Continue to pray for junior doctors and that negotiations can restart before further strikes take place later in the year after the imposition of contracts. Pray for all those in education as further reforms are considered and the impact this will have on children’s lives and self-esteem as well as greater parent choice.

Church and Community – Continue to prayer for the vacancy-in-see committee as they work with the Archbishops’ and Prime Minister’s Secretaries for Appointments in our Diocese as they look to discern who the next bishop of Sheffield might be. Pray for our 92Teens group as they lead our service today and as they continue to grow and meet together. Pray for Dave and for all the leaders of the group and for opportunities to reach out to the young people in our community and beyond. Pray for our parish and the wider deanery as discussions continue surrounding mission partnerships and for discernment and understanding as to where we can come together for the benefit of God’s kingdom.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time, particularly Jane O, Mavis, Jean G and James. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
