Items for Prayer w/c 26th June 2016

World – Please continue to pray for the loved ones of those who murdered in the Orlando attacks and for the family, friends and constituents of Jo Cox. Pray for those who are caught up in extremism and bigotry. Pray also for America and the gun laws they have and for sensible solutions and discussions around this difficult situation in both the Senate and Congress. Continue to pray for places in our world where there is war and unrest, particularly Syria, the Ukraine and Africa. Pray particularly for those fleeing Boko Haram in Nigeria after 200 refugees were starved to death this week. Again after a week in which North Korea have seemingly tested long range missiles against UN sanctions pray for peace in this region and a change of heart for the leadership in this oppressive regime.

UK – After the EU referendum results this week pray for politicians from all sides to now come together and back the majority will of the people. Pray for our country in these turbulent times and for time to be taken to realise the full implications of the results this will have. Continue praying for pupils in our local secondary schools taking GCSE’s and A-Levels. After significant changes in all these tests pray for children to do the best they can on the day and for them to remain calm and stress free. As figures released this week show a growing population due to many factors including an ageing population and net migration pray for services in our country such as they NHS, police and fire services, schools and housing as these increased numbers stretch all these keys areas in our country.

Church and Community – Pray for Bishop Steven and Ann as they prepare to leave the Diocese for Oxford. Pray for good endings and farewells and pray for them as a couple as they begin a new period in their lives and ministry in a new Diocese. As Dave today takes a baptism and communion service at Christchurch Gleadless pray for a number of parishes in our deanery who are without stipendiary clergy at the present time, including Hackenthorpe and Gleadless, Heeley and Darnall. Pray for our PCC as they meet this week and discuss our common fund contribution to the Diocese for 2017 and other business of the church. We pray for wisdom and discernment in all their decisions and discussions. Continue to pray for Dave and Esther away on honeymoon and as they settle into married life together.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time particularly Linda, Shannon, June and Derek Craig, Shaun, Rita Spencer, Sylvia L, Will’s Mum and Dad, Jean G and Jean D. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week, particularly the family and friends of Margery Bennett and Raymond Brooks, that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
