Items for Prayer w/c 27th November 2016

World – After the truck bomb explosion in Iraq this week continue to pray for the country and for peace. Remember in your prayers much of this region including Syria and pray particularly for civilians who are caught up in this fighting and are fleeing conflict. Continue to pray for all those places in our world where there is unrest, war and troubles. Pray for all those who are making decisions about the lives of these refugees as they flee conflict in their own countries and pray for compassion in these difficult situations. After fires in Israel pray for the many thousands of people who have been displaced from their homes and who have seen their lives destroyed by this terrible natural event.

UK – After the autumn statement showing turbulent times ahead in the economy and as reports from the IFS show that workers pay is worse than during the 1940’s pray for all those who find themselves struggling financially. Pray for our government as they make sweeping reforms of services such as the health service, social care and education and pray for a rethink in their strategic objectives. After two students were stabbed outside a college of further education this week in Manchester pray for them and their families as they recover from these attacks. Pray also for those investigating these crimes and that justice will be served.

Church and Community – Continue to prayer for the vacancy-in-see committee this week as potential candidates are interviewed and they look to discern who the next bishop of Sheffield might be. As our Christmas Tree festival begins later this week pray for people in Woodhouse and our wider community that they will receive blessings through this festival. Pray for Jean and the team as they prepare for this event and for the Christmas fair. Remember in your prayers our ecumenical partners in the village and the work they do with the elderly, young people and those who are vulnerable in our society. Pray for the wider deanery as we think through ways of how we might work together more closely.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time, particularly Rebecca, Shannon, Paul, Sylvia, Jean G, Jean D, Doreen, Rosie, Jane O and Mavis. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
