Items for prayer w/c 28th May 2017

World –In a week which saw further bombing and civilian casualties, pray for all victims of war and protect those who are committed to peace. Pray for unity within the US government and that those in a leadership role will make their hearts and ears open to Godly council, doing what is right in your sight. Remember in your prayers the migrants making treacherous journeys from their homelands in the hope of a better life. Give them companions in their distress, hope in their wandering and safe lodging at their journeys end. Pray for the people in this country who are being squeezed by high inflation and prices and decreasing wages because of the world economy.

UK – Pray for all the victims of the Manchester bombing and hold the families of the victims in our hearts and prayers.  Pray for the spirit of wisdom, understanding and tolerance to prevail in our communities so as to promote an atmosphere of peace. Now a general election has been called for 8th June pray for a good and positive campaign on all sides and for the electorate to make informed choices on all sides. As negotiations with the EU begin pray for talks on all sides to be fair and cordial. As we enter a protracted period of uncertainty for our country pray for our economy, for those most affected and who’s status in this country is uncertain and for sensible debate. Continue to pray for the NHS after a week of cyber-attacks put further pressure on this service.

Church and Community – Pray for the new Bishop of Sheffield the Very Revd Dr Pete Wilcox and that he will bring unity in our Diocese as we move forward together in mission and outreach to communities across our region. As Dave, Verity and the boys prepare to leave St James pray for good endings and new beginnings for both them and all here at Woodhouse and in the community. Pray for the development of the Mission Partnership and the continuing unity of St James.

Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week, including the family of Sarah Cawthorne, Steven Ramsden and Carole Lindley, that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
