Items for Prayer w/c 31st January 2016

World –Continue to pray for Syria, Ukraine, Iraq, Afghanistan and various countries in Africa where there is unrest, war and famine. Pray for governments around the world as they tackle terrorism together and for solutions to be found. As the Zika virus continues to spread in countries in Africa and South America. Pray for scientists who are behind in research as they search for a cure and solution to the virus. As American voters start to decide who should be the next Presidential candidate for their respective parties pray for discernment amongst the electorate and for the right people to be put forward.

UK – Pray for the family of Milly Dowler as further evidence is found this week regarding her murder. Pray they will know God’s peace and that justice will seen in this case to towards her killer. As political posturing begins surrounding an EU referendum pray that there will be full and frank discussion from all parties and the electorate are fully informed before a decision is made. Pray for residents in Scotland and Cumbria as they continue to recover after severe flooding and in many places are still under daily threat of further flooding.

Church and Community – Prayer for discussion this week between our parish and those in the local area as we discuss plans to be a presence in all communities with fewer clergy numbers and how we might partner with other parishes to continue God’s mission in this area of Sheffield. Thank God after the appointment of David Ludbrook as St James Youth Worker. As David prepares to begin this exciting and challenging new role in April pray that you will already be preparing his heart and mind for the challenges ahead. Pray also for his fiancé and him and they prepare to marry later this year and the changes this will bring alongside a new role in church leadership.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time particularly Joyce, Sylvia L, Jean G and Jean D. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
