Items for Prayer w/c 3rd July 2016

World – Please continue to pray for the loved ones of those who murdered in the Orlando attacks and for the family, friends and constituents of Jo Cox. After another terrorist attack, this time in an airport in Turkey, pray for those who are caught up in extremism and bigotry and for all those who victims of these outrages and for family and friends who are left without loved ones. Pray also for America and the gun laws they have and for sensible solutions and discussions around this difficult situation in both the Senate and Congress. Continue to pray for places in our world where there is war and unrest, particularly Syria, the Ukraine and Africa. Away from media attention the Taliban is still active in Afghanistan after troops have been withdrawn. Pray for the fledgling democratic government there to be able to withstand against these attacks and to build a better and democratic country for all.

UK – After the EU referendum results this week pray for politicians from all sides to now come together and back the majority will of the people. Pray for our country in these turbulent times and for both main political parties as they seem bogged down with in fighting when the country needs a strong lead from politicians. Pray for the Scottish government as they look to the possibility of a second referendum for independence and for unity across the country both in Scotland and across the UK. As remembrance services are held this weekend for all those who died in the battle of the Somme 100 years ago remember in your prayers service men and women who continue to work on the frontline in many distant and remote countries to bring peace and order and for their family and friends at home.

Church and Community – Pray for Bishop Steven and Ann as they prepare to leave the Diocese for Oxford. Pray for good endings and farewells and pray for them as a couple as they begin a new period in their lives and ministry in a new Diocese. As St James and Trinity Methodists step out together in mission this week with our new ‘Meet & Eat’ meal pray for all those who attend that they will feel a real sense of community, love and care and find a this event a blessing from Christians here in Woodhouse. Pray for David as he goes into Woodhouse West and Brunswick schools to work with the Y6 children as they think about changes to secondary school. Pray that these are relationship building sessions that Dave will be able to build on in the future with young people in the community.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time particularly Linda, Amy, Shannon, June and Derek Craig, Shaun, Rita Spencer, Sylvia L, Will’s Mum and Dad, Jean G and Jean D. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week, particularly the family and friends of Raymond Brooks, Ronald Pedley and Gloria Harris, that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
