Items for Prayer w/c 5th February 2017

World – Continue to pray for events in America after various Executive Orders aimed at refugees and migrants to the country. Pray also for key appointments and for those who have the Presidents ear for careful and responsible advice to be given. Pray for Syria and the whole of the Middle East amidst continued fighting and war. After a historic peace deal in Colombia and as Farc rebels disband pray for the country that this new peace will hold and bring much needed rest to the country. Continue to pray for the Gambia as the government goes through turbulent times and disputes over elections. As Holland goes to the polls later this month pray for God’s will in this crucial election which will have far ranging effects both in the country and further afield in the EU.

UK – As the commons votes overwhelmingly to back the Brexit bill continue to pray for ministers as they head towards a formal triggering of article 50 and the beginning of negotiations for Brexit. Pray that the best interests of all will prevail in this difficult situation. Continue to pray for the NHS and all those who work in the health professions. Pray for government strategies to be in the best interests of patients and political posturing will not get in the way of providing the very best care for all. After a retired teacher is found guilty and sentenced for historic abuse to pupils in his care prayer for the victims in this case as they see justice after so many years and for healing for each one of them.

Church and Community – As our new Diocesan Bishop has been announced this week please pray for Philip North as he takes up this important role. Pray for our Diocese as we move forward together in mission and outreach to communities across our region. Pray for June and the team as they host our Friendship group this week. Pray for those who come who have lost loved ones recently and for them to know God’s love and peace at this difficult time. Pray for Dave as Area Dean as he leads clergy in this deanery and for wisdom and pastoral care as they discuss new ways of spreading God’s word in these different and often struggling communities.

Sick and Bereaved – Pray for all those known to us who are unwell at this time, particularly David, Rebecca, Tony and Bobby, Paul, Sylvia, Jean G, Jean D, Doreen and Mavis. Pray for all those who have been bereaved this week, particularly the family and friends of Robinson Knagg, that they will know God’s love and tenderness at this difficult time.
