Administrative information

St James’ Church is situated on Tithe Barn Lane, Woodhouse, Sheffield. It is part of the Diocese of Sheffield within the Church of England.  The correspondence address is The Vicarage, 65 Cardwell Avenue, Woodhouse, Sheffield.

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) is a charity excepted from registration with the Charity Commission.

Structure, governance and management

The method of appointment of PCC members is set out in the Church Representation Rules. All church attendees are encouraged to register on the Electoral Roll and stand for election to the PCC.

Our Vision

St James is a welcoming, nurturing church for the whole family of God, telling the Good News of Jesus Christ and encourages discipleship through actions and words in Woodhouse and beyond.

Mission Statement

St James’ congregation will provide a safe, relaxed and welcoming place for people of all ages to come and explore their faith in God. This will be through the provision of worship services, open church groups and by outreach and participation in Woodhouse community groups, schools and nursing homes.

St James’ PCC has the responsibility of co-operating with the incumbent and the Diocese of Sheffield, in promoting in the ecclesiastical parish the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical. It also has maintenance responsibilities for St James’ Parish Hall, Tithe Barn Way, Woodhouse, Sheffield.

Achievements and Performance

Church Attendance

There are 84 parishioners on the Church Electoral Roll of the parish. The average weekly attendance, counted during October, was 74 (54 adults 20 children).

Service Times and regular activities include:-

  • 1st Sunday Family Service 10:30 am
  • 2nd Sunday Holy Communion 10:30 am followed by 12.30 Holy Baptism
  • 3rd Sunday Family Baptism 10:30 am
  • 4th Sunday Holy Communion 10:30 am
  • 5th Sunday Family Communion 10:30 am
  • Sunbeams & Blazing Stars at Sunday services
  • Alternate Tuesday’s 92Teens youth group at 7.00pm
  • 3rd Sunday Brunswick Retirement Village service 5:30 pm
  • Last Wednesday of month service at Balmoral Care Home 2:00 pm


  • 3rd Monday in the month Messy Church 3:45 pm
  • Festival Messy Church on Good Friday and during Advent
  • Every Tuesday morning Tots and Tea group 10:30 am
  • Monday morning prayers at 9.00am
  • Every Wednesday Praise & Prayer at 9.00am
  • 2 Discipleship groups
  • Alternate Tuesdays Mother’s Union at 2.30pm

Review of year

The full PCC met 9 times during the year. Items discussed included:-

  • Review and update of Mission Action Plan
  • Organising Community Christmas Tree Festival
  • Maintenance of Buildings and Garden
  • Finance and Fundraising
  • Funding and employment of a Youth Worker
  • Updates from Family and Children’s Worker
